Professionals don’t often know how to treat people with chronic pain. Even though a lot of research has been done in this area, the problem of chronic pain is still very difficult to treat. There are some medications that are specifically designed to treat pain, but they can have serious side effects. Each of us has our own experience of what pain is, how it feels and how we respond to it. So when it comes to communicating about pain, it’s important to acknowledge the unique experience that each person has and then to help them find a solution that works for them.
