Dershnee Devan will be presenting the Ethics lecture titled:
“The many faces of Pain”.
The presentation will discuss the current assessment and treatment of people suffering from chronic pain with the focus on the concept of pain management as a human right.
Ms Devan is an Occupational Therapist who has 17 years of clinical experience with a special interest in chronic pain. She has completed a master’s degree in the field of HIV and chronic pain. She has worked in both the public and private sectors and including working as a lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand. She has published two papers in academic journals one of these on the therapeutic management of chronic pain and the other on the conservative management of mallet finger injuries through elastic taping. She is the current secretary of Pain SA and the current South African delegate to the International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy representing the South African Society of Hand Therapists.
