2017 Refresher Course Day, Brisbane, May 12, 2017
Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre
The Faculty of Pain Medicine warmly welcome you to the 15th annual FPM Refresher Course Day.
It gives me great pleasure to invite all FPM and ANZCA Fellows, trainees and health professionals interested in pain medicine, to the 15th Annual Faculty of Pain Medicine Refresher Course Day in 2017. The meeting will be held on Friday May 12, immediately prior to the ANZCA/FPM “Think Big” Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM).
The theme “Big specifics” will complement the ASM and will deal with the big challenges involved in specific types of pain such as paediatric and pelvic pain. It will also give practical tips on how to specifically manage persistent pain. How do we interpret big data, create big networks for pain management across vast distance yet apply this to our specific patients.
We have two exciting international speakers headlining the programme:
Professor Christopher Eccleston (FPM ASM Visitor) from the Centre for Pain Research, University of Bath, UK is a leading authority in research and development as a Member of Scientific Research Committee (Marie Curie); Field Editor for Psychology, PAIN and a coordinating editor of Pain, Palliative and Supportive Care Cochrane Review Group. His research interests include evidence based pain management; self-management of chronic illness; assistive rehabilitative technology; adolescent chronic pain and parenting.
Dr Suellen Walker (FPM Queensland Visitor), Clinical Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, Great Ormond Street Hospital, UK will complement Chris’ knowledge with expertise in paediatric anaesthesia, acute and chronic pain management. Her research focuses on evaluating age-related changes in pain response, the long-term effects of early pain and injury and developmental pharmacodynamics of analgesic drugs.
They are supported by a very talented group of experts from Australia and New Zealand with backgrounds in paediatric and pelvic pain, science, research, psychology and ethics for pain medicine.
I look forward to warmly welcoming you all to Brisbane and the Sunshine State next year.
